17 Nov 08 Bone Marrow Toxicity In Advanced Lung Cancer May Be Reduced By Proton Therapy And Concurrent Chemotherapy

Patients treated for locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer who receive chemotherapy and proton beam therapy have fewer instances of bone marrow toxicity than patients who receive the standard treatment of intensity-modulated radiation (IMRT) and concurrent chemotherapy, according to researchers from The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.

09 Nov 08 Study Showed Tarceva Improved Progression-Free Survival As A First-Line Maintenance Therapy For Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Genentech, Inc. (NYSE:DNA) and OSI Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq:OSIP) today announced that a global Phase III study (SATURN) met its primary endpoint and showed Tarceva® (erlotinib) significantly extended the time patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) lived without their cancer getting worse when given immediately following initial treatment with platinum-based chemotherapy, compared to placebo.

Reuters - Japanese investigators say that survival rates are better for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who never smoked than in NSCLC patients with a history of smoking. Other disease characteristics are different as well between the two populations.

06 Oct 08 Topline Results From Phase III Study Evaluating The Combination Of Avastin And Tarceva As 2nd-Line Treatment For Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Genentech, Inc. (NYSE:DNA) and OSI Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq:OSIP) today announced that a randomized Phase III study (BeTa Lung) evaluating Avastin® (bevacizumab) in combination with Tarceva® (erlotinib) in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) whose disease had progressed following platinum-based chemotherapy did not meet its primary endpoint of improving overall survival compared to Tarceva in combination with placebo.

04 Oct 08 Merck KGaA: Survival In 1st-Line Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) Significantly Prolonged By Erbitux(R)

Data presented today at the 1st International Thoracic Oncology Congress Dresden (ITOCD) demonstrate that the addition of Erbitux® (cetuximab) to standard platinum-based chemotherapy in the 1st-line treatment of advanced NSCLC resulted in a significantly longer overall survival. The patient population comprising all histological subtypes - and therefore closely resembled ‘real world’ clinical practice.

Pfizer announced updated safety and efficacy results surrounding its investigational compound, CP-751,871, in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). These results, along with supporting correlative science data, were presented at the 33rd European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) congress in Stockholm, Sweden.
